Once hot, add garlic cloves and red pepper flakes (you can skip this if you want to adjust for spice tolerance). Add salt and pepper, and adjust to taste. Add the finely chopped basil leaves on top. Once pasta is al dente, add cooked pasta using tongs to the sauce and toss well to coat. Add a small portion of the reserved pasta water, one tablespoon at a time, and toss with tongs to form your sauce. This helps the sauce get a silky texture and coat the pasta fully.
