These Greek Lamb Tacos come together in only 30 minutes and are perfect for the whole family! They’re packed with Mediterranean flavor and topped with a homemade tzatziki sauce, fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and feta cheese. These lamb tacos remind me so much of a homemade gyro, but SO much easier to make. Gyro meat is difficult to make at home, so I used ground lamb seasoned similarly with oregano and garlic. And I used Mission® Super Soft Flour Tortillas instead of traditional pita bread, which worked wonderfully! Mission® Super Soft Flour Tortillas are just that- super soft. And they stay that way for weeks (whereas pita bread usually has to be used fresh, otherwise it gets crumbly). Although, they’re so good I’m willing to bet that they won’t even last a week in your home! These Greek Lamb Tacos were perfect on a warmed tortilla. And as a bonus, Mission® Super Soft Flour Tortillas are larger than your average tortilla, which made it easy to wrap up like a gyro. In fact, just one of these Greek tacos is big enough for one person! You can find Mission Super Soft Flour Tortillas in the bread or tortilla aisle of your local grocery store and they can be used for so many other things, such as enchiladas or burritos. They’re also available nationwide. For me, the holidays are always about lots of food and spending time with friends and family, and not just on the actual holiday. The whole season is a wonderful excuse for getting together with the people you love and sharing delicious foods. Growing up, Greek food was a huge part of any family get-together. So I was really excited to serve my family these Greek tacos with all the comforting flavors I grew up eating around the holidays. The lamb is so easy to make- just sauté ground lamb with onions, garlic, and oregano, along with some salt and pepper, in olive oil. The cool and creamy tzatziki sauce (cucumber yogurt sauce) is a perfect complement to the savory, earthy flavor of the lamb. In fact, I have a whole other post devoted to this sauce of the gods. Check out this authentic tzatziki sauce recipe to read more about it! You can make the tzatziki sauce a day or two in advance, as well as chop up the cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onion in advance. I like to serve these Greek tacos with all the fixings in small bowls on my kitchen island, along with the skillet of lamb and a pile of warmed tortillas (they are best when they are warmed- I just microwave them for a few seconds). That way, everyone can help themselves and fix their tacos to their liking. If you prefer, beef can be used instead of lamb. It’s less expensive and more widely available. And lamb has a very distinct taste that I happen to LOVE, but some people don’t like it. Just use beef if lamb isn’t your thing, or even turkey for a leaner option. And the FETA CHEESE! I almost forgot to talk about it. I’m very picky about my feta so I do have one piece of advice. I recommend buying feta in a block and crumbling it yourself, rather than buying it pre-crumbled. It’s much more flavorful. Just use the tines of a fork to pull pieces away from the block to easily crumble it yourself.
