Spicy Hot Chocolate With Cayenne Pepper

This recipe is inspired by Mexican hot chocolate, which is spiced with cinnamon, chili powder, cayenne, and vanilla. This simpler version only adds the cayenne for a bit of a kick without having to raid your entire spice cabinet. After seeing the movie Chocolat years ago, I was really excited to try spicy hot chocolate made with red pepper. The main character serves it to the grumpy customer (Judi Dench) and it immediately uplifts her spirit....

Vegan Duck Pancakes

There are not many meat dishes I miss since going vegan, but duck pancakes is definitely one of them. It may sound a bit strange as it’s not like I grew up on them (I first tried them in my early 20s) or even ate that them that often as an omnivore, but I fell in love with this dish ever since I first tried it. I would have crispy duck pancakes once or twice a year, usually on a lazy winter Sunday when hours of wandering through Soho made our stomachs rumble and an impromptu dinner in Chinatown suddenly seemed like a genius idea....

Vegan Greek Zucchini Fritters

Kολοκυθοκεφτέδες (kolokithokeftedes) or zucchini fritters are one of my favourite Greek mezedes (mezze). Here is my attempt at making them vegan (traditionally, they use an egg as a binder and often feta too). I made three batches of these puppies and my last batch is pretty damn close to what you can get in the local tavernas here. They are not hard to make at all, especially if you own an electric grater – I’ve had to do all my zucchini shredding by hand, but it wasn’t too bad as zucchini shreds easily....

Vegan Meatballs Moroccan Inspired

As much as it pains me to say, one cannot live on chocolate mousse tarts alone, so today’s recipe is a savoury, main meal affair. It’s the kind of meal that lends itself to making a large amount of in advance and then eating on repeat for the entire week. A bowl of super filling and satisfying Moroccan-inspired meatballs (or neatballs if you are after semantic correctness) can be consumed in any way you like, straight from the pan, in a sandwich or with a heap of salad and maybe a dollop of hummus....

Vegan Parmesan Parsnips

Today on the menu is a plate of vegan Parmesan roasted parsnips. They are super easy to make and strangely addictive – I struggle not to hoover them up as soon as they emerge from the oven. They will make a beautiful Xmas dinner or vegan roast dinner side. Making them at my house is fraught with danger as my cat, Tina, is a nutritional yeast addict. I am not kidding....

Vegan Peach And Almond Galette

This dish is a celebration of a booming peach season here in Greece. Peaches (and their smooth cousins – nectarines) are everywhere and you’ll be crazy not to fill your boots. They are cheap, sweet and succulent. I guess I could have used them in a healthy smoothie, but the truth is that I made this tart to placate my sweet tooth as no matter how many times I make a resolution to quit desserts, I simply cannot go through with it....

Vegan Pecan Pie

While we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here, vegan pecan pie eating is something I could easily get behind. It happens to combine some of my favourite flavours on Earth: buttery pecans bathed in an aromatic concoction of maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and orange zest, which I know is not necessarily traditional, but I like its festive overtones, so I added it to mine. This recipe creation was full of drama so I am especially happy that it made it to the blog and I’m able to share it with you today....

Vegan Pumpkin Cheesecake Jars

Hope your weekend is peachy and relaxing. We are cracking on with chores and DIY as the weather is truly miserable and we committed to returning to DIY when being outside isn’t fun at all. Today is one of these days… Recipewise, I’ve had some serious tribulations with my oven before the weekend where I thought it was irreparably broken (and we got it on Ebay so no warranty) as it kept on tripping the electricity and ruined my bread....

Baked Meatball Pasta Recipe Simple Home Edit

And for those of you who are really short on time, you can even skip the baking step and add the uncooked meatballs straight to the sauce. As these meatballs are so popular at my place, I tend to make a big batch to freeze. I thaw them out as needed and repurpose them into other meals like meatball subs, pizza toppings or lunchbox fillers. The kids just love them – and I love the glass of red wine and lashings of parmesan that accompany my serving....

Blackberry Crumble Bars

Summer berries continue to call to me. Today’s recipe for blackberry crumble bars features juicy and tart blackberries that are staring at me every morning as I walk through my neighbourhood park in a bid to improve my mental health, which has been in tatters lately. Feta And Sun Dried Tomato Tart

If you’re familiar with Greek food, you know that feta and filo dough are the building blocks to all kinds of delicious food, such as spanakopita (spinach pie) or tyropita (cheese pie). In both traditional recipes, feta is mixed with eggs for a quiche-like filling, then stuffed inside triangles of filo dough or in-between layers like a casserole. This open-faced filo tart is less time consuming than forming individual triangles....
